Rave Magazine interview - how exciting!

So Darryl said, "Act cool Louise.  You are in the very cool street press now. That means you have to be cool about it.  They only interview cool people so be cool.  Ok.  Cool. Got it?.."

I got it. YEah right... The cool message coming from someone who dresses like this at Christmas - a mankini - cool?

And who can forget the great Pirate birthday Party ? (Note to Darryl: Johnny Depp is the only cool pirate.)

And what about dressing as a Jamaican Bobsledder?  (You don't look cool just because the other person  looks sillier. Sorry Hugo but you did look ridiculous)

So you can see why I am hesitant to listen to any form of style advice from a man who dresses as such.  Yes, granted,  I did buy most of these outfits.  But funny is kinda cool.  Wearing them - well that is a whole other statement about our marriage isn't it?!

So - Darryl - sorry, but I am not listening. I am really, really excited!  This is SUPERCOOOOL and a little hilarious - and we know how much I love something random and hilarious.

Here is the big interview in Rave.  Rave is a very cool street magazine.  Hard copy and web edition.  It lists all the Brisbane gigs and indie street music - plus other style info (that would be where my interview is located because I don't need to tell you about how bad my singing and air drumming is...) If you do go and have a peek at the download version of the mag - note the advert underneath my half page interview (yep - HALF PAGE!!!!) - about STIs - sexually transmitted infections (2 points to note here - back in my day they were called STDs - the 'd' being diseases - so a little infection has to be less dangerous than the dangers we faced back in the 80s!!....  AND secondly,  I have to admit - I haven't written about sexually transmitted diseases since Grade 9 Heath classes - about 3000 years ago) 

And regarding my rockstar references to my ticketed tickets just like Pink (who by the way - only got a teensy, weensy, tiny little paragraph in Rave...)  I am definitely feeling some super rockstar cred at the moment.

You are so wrong Darryl - it is cool to be really, really excited! And it is ok to tell all your suburban school mum mates about it. I am just not cool enough to know people who have half a clue about Rave Magazine (and for that matter STIs)...

Jamaican Bobsled team robbed of medal

Brisbane Boys College Junior School Quiz night was on Saturday night. Funny.  Imagine 200 normally sensible, socially responsible adults turning up kitted out in Olympic themed outfits to sit and answer inane questions about, well, just about anything useless and impractical!  There was much food, too much wine and some spectacularly ridiculous outfits.  And I think it fair to say that Grade 2 K parents - the Jamaican Bobsled Team were the most ridiculous.

 That would be a picture of quite normal people - a Dentist, a Barrister, a CEO and a former Wallaby,oh and a Miffy, but what happens when you dress people up in a theme and give them a few vinos, yes silly - they go silly.  Mihaela looks like a cheap Ho, I look like a pasty white rasta granny - and the others - well just ridiculous.

It was heaps of fun.  Mihaela (that would be the one and same Dr Petrou - and I had made bags and bags and bags of fake marijuana consisting of a lovely mix of parsley and camomile tea. We rolled and rolled rolled 100s of parsley spliffs. 

These Performance Enhancing Drugs were handed out far and wide on Saturday night!  There were a number of tables who went as the Drug Testers - which suited us and our fake Jamaican hooch well! 

Darryl actually has a 1976 Australian Team Track suit - and he loved to tell people how he got it - and how it still fits!  He was in the 1983 Australian Team at the Hot Air Balloon World Cup (yes he was 12 at the time *wink*) and the team got leftover Aussie 76 Olympic trackies.  Very retro in 2008.

The only downer of the night was that we didn't win the best dressed table.  Now we had the most ridiculous looking people - I think a prerequisite for a fancy dress prize - we had reggae music blaring from our boom box, we had fake dope, incense, snowball marshmallows and who could forget our bobsled... But not good enough.  Beaten by a bunch of 70s dressing badminton players.Robbed!

 That just could be Sean's Dreadlocks...  He looked the part with his boombox and joint.

The highlight for me was Hugo.  I laughed myself silly - his bouncy afro wig and Puma running pants - well, what do you think? Those pants are a worry - he owned those before the night...

Fake spliffs in mouth.  Seriously going for a fake bobsled run.  Ridiculous... Grown men - really.

This was the Me Too card. Featuring Aussie Prime Minister Mr Krazy Kev Rudd who having never had an original useful idea in memory inspired the card tables could pay $20 to use to gain as many points as the School Principal's table on a topic about - the school Principal!!

There was also a Prize auction and silent auction.  Great fun.  I bid here, I bid there.  Heck I even bid on a Camper van for 7 days in New Zealand.  There were no airfares included but that didn't seem to matter on the night!  Phew - lucky for me I was not the winner.  I think that van may well have become my home!

But what happened when they read out the winning bids on - a telescope, a beauty package and a piece of jewellry.  Yep - me - I was the winner.  Which meant Darryl Breadwinner Stuart was the loser!!!  Auction Slag is my new name!  But I think that even though the telescope is not the Hubble it shall  be really nice for Jack.  The beauty pack and the jewellry will be lovely too...  So glad I didn't have to pay for the Campervan prize too....

Last but not least, here is Belinda, Grade 2 Ks teacher in her new Madebymiffy apron!   I also donated a custom apron in the auction as a prize.

Undies Fun

Have I told you about my children's fascination with wearing their Dad's undies?  Outside their pyjamas?  Yes, tonight before bedtime - it was time to nick Dad's undies and put them on over their PJs.

As you can see - Darcy has her head thrown back laughing hysterically.  I tell you, after "So you think you can Dance?" TV show has to be "So you think you are Funny?" and Jack and Darcy are so right there for that one.  They just crack themselves up at their own little jokes...

Probably the year they began... with their pyjama bottoms on their head?!  Silly - yes.  Why?  No idea - other than they love to get a laugh.  So we really only have ourselves to blame.  We laughed - so they keep doing it!

2007 - it progressed to Darryl's stuff.  Pjs first.  Here we are doing the stupid faces for the laugh.  Darcy thinks Jackie is absolutely THE funniest person alive for pulling a face or saying Poo Poo.  Gets her everytime.

The Birthday Bloggin' Lovin' Competetion...

So, I am having a birthday on May 9.  No way?  You didn't know did you?  Well, there are many people who do know as I have dropped about 1547 random mentionings out of seeming thin air into conversations and Flickr posts and blogging and emails for about the last 12 days.

And one more for good measure...   All you have to do is leave me some random, gratuitious, heartfelt, totally unexpected birthday lovin' here in Miffys World.  Razzle Dazzle (that would be my better half Darryl) will draw a random entry after our fabbo Mothers Day (Tequila fuelled) celebrations on Sunday May 11.  That would be 2 days after my birthday just in case you are a little slow on the uptake there....

So, I'm waiting....  It really is a lovely apron peeps...  Three cheers for Miff.. Hip, hip....

Runner! Left....

Yes...that would be moi.  You see, I have been going for 5.30am walks for over a year now.  And as I dragged my sorry bot bot around the streets at such an ungodly hour - all I felt  was being achieved was a catch up on the goss (I did this with my bud Jennifer) and a quick recon of the window of the lovely Meaghan's shoe shop  Sapato  (I have been there during the day and seen our little nose prints on the window) I digress.... So, recently I joined the gym Fatness Fitness First.  Got a Personal Trainer - the lovely Emma - to kick my sorry bot bot into shape and I am off down the lycra road (I even wear red shoes down that road - Merrils, courtesy of Sapato - see it is all linked in the 'burbs)

And now I run.  Mrs Mosely and I cut a fine picture of health as we pound the road - in the dark.  Lucky Mrs Mosely is almost irridescent white.  So - not only do I appear healthy - I am such a responsible dog owner.  She even knows to stop at Sapato now albeit for a wee break.  (Sorry Meaghan...)  Anyhoo....  back in the ol'  waddle walk days, the cyclists (and there are many - think Beijing - but instead of uniforn Mao suits - picture billboard coloured lycra) in their noisy pelletons peddle by and yell (and you wonder why I am not asleep at this hour?? It is impossible with the chatter of multiple pelletons of gossiping cyclists) - "Walker left" or "Dog left" as they pass.  Mind you some mornings - I think they were announcing my sorry state rather than Mrs Mosley's cannine-ness

But this morning... Mrs Mosley and I graduated... "Runner Left" was the call.  Yes - street cred.  I am a runner.  So yell it as much as you like peddle jockeys... Emma will be proud...

Well there is a first time for everything and this is one of those occassions.  lily tagged me and whilst I have seen this tagging thing going on at other blogs- I have not been caught, til now.  So, here are 6 random/quirky things about moi.  And by the way, make sure you visit blockaday, and see some of Lily's beautiful work.

Here goes...

1. I once won a Flying Scholarship to learn to fly a fixed wing aircraft.  I did the solo thing - but never finished the licence - life and marriage breakups kind of got in the way...  It was kinda cool to beat 250 people for it (at 33) and be the first female to ever win.  Sorry I let the sistahood down in not finishing though...

2. Apparently, I shuffle cards left handed - even though I am a rightie. Am rubbish at doing most things with my left hand -except shuffle.  So if I ever break my right arm - anyone for a game of cards?

3. I never thought I would be a mum. I always wanted to have bubbas but after a disastrous starter marriage to a real cad (gosh that sounds a bit Jane Austen doesn't it?  Really, cad??  Ok, so I meant something more along the lines of "rhymes with duckzit"  Although that fits too, doesn't it?!) anyhoo.... I digress.... and many years of singledom I thought that I had hit the ol' biological clock snooze button too many times! Then Darryl and I met and whammo - 10 weeks later - pregnant with Jack. At 37 one would expect more responsible behaviour?  So, 2 munchkins later - life is sweeeet.

4. I am really hopeless at the sight of blood - or even visiting people in hospital. Have actually passed out on a hospital visit.  Very embarrassing when you are there to see your Nan who has had major surgery and whammo! you are the one on the floor hogging all the attention.  I have also very nearly passed out at the vets. True.  Sad isn't it?

5. I too do the matching pegs thing Lily!! I am working on it though - bought pegs that are only blue or whte.  Takes too long to peg out the washing when you are trying to match the multi colour ones!  At least I am not as bad as my mum,  who when she irons - matches her clothes to an appropriately matching coloured pretty coathanger.  Must take ages!!!

6. I love to play the air drums in the car at the traffic lights. I am sure gonna be able to embarrass the whipper snappers with that one when they are older.  At the moment though - I shall bask in the 'cool'  aura that they think I live within!
