Today started at 5.30am. A contemplation of the world on my back upstairs verandah. We live amongst the trees it seems.

Behind me...
So it only seems right that the Butcher Bird Babies visit me...
Then it was time for some Secret Fairy Business. The Fairy Ring had a Renovation last night. Darc found this garland - nice and sparkly - but still something missing - so she fancied it up a little by adding wool and ribbons. She left the fairies a letter - hoping for a reply. Channelling Enid Blyton, here is the letter...
It says:
We are the Laurel tree fairies. We will share a
little secret with you but you must not tell other children. Do you promise?
Well, the trees in your street are very
magical. Like the Magic Faraway tree, only in Chelmer! We share
the tree with other fairies, elves and goblins too. The goblins are not very nice though. They are cheeky and encourage children to be
bad—which gets them into trouble with their Mum and Dad. That isn’t nice is
it? We sleep during the day and visit all the
children every night along Laurel Avenue. We help them have lovely dreams and
get good rest. But
lately we have been spending far too much time playing in the fancy fairy ring
here that you have made for us Darcy! It
is lovely and we have heaps of fun!
Now when we visited your rooms and gave your
loose tooth an extra wiggle Darcy (so our friend Toothy Fairy will come visit
you soon), we noticed your Daddy is away and so is his big suitcase.
We
guessed he is overseas for a big trip.
We hope you are both going to be extra good helpers for mummy. You will have to ask her to do some special
stuff with you if you are indeed great little helpers! We will sprinkle extra dust on your pillows to
help you to be helpful and extra dust on Mummy’s pillow so she sleeps well
too. We love you both Darcy and
Jack.

So, you can see where I am going with this. Intended messages include...
1. We fairies are busy so we can't come every night
2. You two need to be helpful whilst Dad is away and not stoush like Reform School candidates.
3. Mummy needs her sleep.
4. Jack - you 4.30am riser - are having fairy dust sprinkled over you at night to help you sleep. (Our ongoing dilemma with early risers in this house!)
Anyway - this isthe reaction the blue glittered letter received from Darc who had raced out of bed, dressed for school and straight out the front for fairy evidence inspection
Wish me luck. I think I am in for a long career in Fairy writings.
Oh - and here is my new apron. Ruffles round right up to the waistband. Drawstring neck with a shaped bodice. Easy to sew. My friend Belinda is currently drawing up my patterns for printing and downloadable .pdf. Supercool!
Once again - I would love to get some feedback on these!
